The Things to Consider for Diapers that Nobody Talks About
Diapers are one of the most marketed items ever. There are commercials, instagram ads, and every other medium that parents use. What we discovered is that there are factors for diapers that parents should consider that are not really advertised.
Availability
Sure we live in a society where almost anything can be ordered and delivered quickly however there was a time (and every parent will experience this) when we had a diaper emergency and wanted to try Coterie diapers to see if they were the solution. We went into Whole Foods (which was the only brick and mortar store that carried that brand at the time) to discover that the size we needed was all sold out. Also imagine you are traveling with your baby, you bring some diapers with you but isn’t it nice to know that you will be able to go into a store and buy your diaper at your destination as well? This means that you do not need to pack as much in the bag and also gives you peace of mind if anything goes wrong! So while yes the fancy brands that are subscription services will probably be cleaner however the availability of the diaper is something that should not be discounted.
Wetness Indicator
There are some hipster diapers on the market that do not have a wetness indicator. Believe me you will love the wetness indicator. It is so nice to just take a quick peek and immediately understand the status of the “business”. Now another thing that we discovered is that usually the “cuter” designs are more busy and therefore it is harder to actually read the wetness indicator (which makes the point of having one less valuable). Simple designs are going to be easy to see! Even better if the wetness indicator is easily visible.
Switching Cost
When we had our baby she was very picky when it came to diapers. So we started to try almost every diaper on the market to try to find the perfect one. But while maybe we did not find the “perfect” choice we found one that minimized her crying and was not going to break the bank as well (Pampers Pure if you must know). Now we could keep trying different ones but really you are so tired as a parent that once you find something good enough… It is good enough.
Baby Shape and Fit
You may have friends who SWEAR by a certain brand of diaper. Now this is great that the diaper works for them and their kids BUT proceed with caution. Your baby shape may be different and that brand may not work for you. Therefore instead of investing $$$ into a large quantity of diapers on your baby registry instead go for a “trial pack” approach and try a few different brands to see what works best
Different Sizes Have Different Features
When you look at a brand of diaper pay attention to a few different sizes of that brand. Sometimes features like blowout prevention may not be present on every size. This also leads into another good point which is that when brands market they never tell you what they do not have. So for example while Millie Moon is a diaper brand that has lots of kudos from other parents, they lack a blowout preventer!
